The Hon’ami family has been dedicated to the polishing and appraisal of Japanese swords since the Muromachi period, producing numerous master craftsmen throughout its long history. The current head, Hon’ami Koshu, was designated a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Property) in October 2014, recognizing his exceptional skills. This DVD showcases the meticulous Japanese sword polishing techniques of the 18th generation head of the Hon’ami Koi lineage, Hon’ami Koshu, along with the esteemed Hon’ami family’s methods for caring and appreciating Japanese swords, considered a Japanese standard.
